Pershore Plum Festival Art Competition
Pershore Plum Festival has launched an Art Competition for 2021! Open to children (aged 4+) and adults, the competition forms part of a wider series of events inspired by a two year long Market Gardening Heritage Project conducted by the Worcestershire Archive and Archaeology Service at The Hive in Worcester.
Their work has aimed to create, and preserve, a record of the history and heritage of market gardening (fruit and vegetable growing) throughout the Vale of Evesham. As part of this work they have carried out a survey of surviving market garden buildings, restored three as heritage sites, created oral testimonies of local memories and held a programme of public events and displays.
We would like Art Competition entrants to use this archive as inspiration. Entrants might make a trip to the hovel sites restored as part of the project and complete a sketch on site. You might be inspired by an oral testimony about life on the land or speak to one of your own relatives whose experiences of growing fruit and vegetables in the Vale of Evesham might inspire a creative response! You might have even worked in the industry yourself and wish to express your memories through the medium of art.
