The Drover’s Wife (15) at Number 8, Pershore
On a remote Snowy Mountains homestead in 1893, Molly (Leah Purcell), a heavily pregnant and lonely bushwoman, tries to run the farm and raise her children while her husband is away. When she finds an escaped Indigenous Australian convict an unlikely bond begins to form between them. Meanwhile, the new town lawman realises that Molly’s husband is missing and sends his constable to investigate.
The Drover’s Wife is the first Australian feature film with an Indigenous woman writing, directing and performing. A cinematic reimagining of Leah Purcell’s acclaimed play inspired by Henry Lawson’s classic 19th century short story, it is a searing Australian Western that asks: how far do you go to protect the ones you love?
Directed by Leah Purcell.
