The Railway Children (U) at Number 8, Pershore

A rare opportunity to enjoy this beloved adaptation of the E.Nesbit classic on the big screen. Featured in the BFI Top 100 British Films of all time, The Railway Children has been an inspiration to old and young audiences alike since its initial release in 1970.

The story follows an Edwardian mother (Dinah Sheridan), and her children who, faced with poverty after their father is imprisoned, move from London to a small cottage in rural Yorkshire. Siblings Bobbie (Jenny Agutter), Phyllis (Sally Thomsett) and Peter (Gary Warren) are soon drawn to the nearby steam railway line and station, and all kinds of adventures. Also starring Bernard Cribbins and William Mervyn.

Directed by Lionel Jeffries.

“…this adaptation of E Nesbit’s much-loved novel is simply the finest children’s film ever made in this country.” Radio Times
